Fluctuating lake levels have wreaked havoc with the shoreline close to the Nkope water intake pump, originally part of a large MACS funded project to supply water to the whole area including a CDSS school, a blind school, the primary school and the clinic. Serious damage over recent years meant that work has had to be carried out to prevent houses and septic tanks falling into the lake and to protect the submersible pump. This work, begun by MACS and with help from the Diocese of Upper Shire funding as well, is still ongoing.
